The Rudraksha is a seed of the tree Elaeocarpus ganitrus found in abundance in Assam, Bihar, Haridwar and some parts of Nepal. According to the Hindu religion, rudraksha has a connection with Lord Shiva. It is believed that it was a part of the ‘third eye’ of Lord Shiva and it was formed by the tears that came out of it. Rudra is used as Shiva’s name and aksha means to be a part of. There are 70 types of rudraksha in all, but out of these only 11 are commonly used/considered to be powerful. The various types of rudrakshaand their uses are:
Ek Mukhi Rudraksha (One Face):
It is said to symbolize the hear of Lord Shiva. It is used for gaining self confidence and better concentration.
Do Mukhi Rudraksha (Two Face):
It symbolizes the union of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. It helps one to maintain a good balance between personal and professional life and lead a healthy life.
Teen Mukhi Rudraksha (Three Face):
It represents Brahma Vishnu and Mahesh. It is used to cure stress and anxiety related problems.
Chaar Mukhi Rudraksha (Four Face):
It represents Lord Brahma and goddess Saraswati. It is used to cure problems related to brain development.
Paanch Mukhi Rudraksha (Five Face):
It represents Kalagni Rudra which is a ‘avtaar’ of Shiva as well as the ‘tatva’ (elements) of the human body. It is used in order to cure the effects of sins.
Chhah Mukhi Rudraksha (Six Face):
It represents Kartikeya, the elder son of Shiva. It is used to control extreme emotions like anger, stress, jealousy, etc.
Saat Mukhi Rudraksha (Seven Face):
It represents the “Saptarishis”. It helps one to reduce the obstacles coming in his path.
Aath Mukhi Rudraksha (Eight Face):
It is also known as ‘ashtadaivya’ because it represents Lord Ganesha and eight other gods. It is used for the betterment of mental and spiritual health.
Nau Mukhi Rudraksha (Nine Face):
This rudraksha represents the nine forms of Goddess Durga and is used to control anger issues.
Das Mukhi Rudraksha (Ten Face):
This rudraksha represents Lord Vishnu. It is used to reduce fear in a person’s mind and bring about a peace of mind.
Gyaarah Mukhi Rudraksha (Eleven Face):
It symbolizes Lord Shiva as well Hanuman who is the eleventh incarnation of Shiva. It is used to achieve success and prosperity in life.
There exist many more types or rudraksha which similarly, are worn/used for benefits in day to day life. However, some things should be considered while wearing a rudraksha. It should be worn in the neck, near the heart or wrist. Therudraksha necklace which is worn in the neck should contain 36 beads, the one in the wrist should contain 12 and the one near the heart should contain 1 bead and a red coloured thread. It is best when worn in the Shravan month of the Hindu calendar, on the day of Mahashivratri or Mondays. The person who wears rudraksha should always be polite, should avoid using slang language and behave in a proper manner.
